Coryn Katz is a dedicated and highly skilled physiotherapist with a wealth of experience in both traditional and aquatic physiotherapy. She holds a Bachelor of Science Physiotherapy Degree from the University of Cape Town, which she completed in 2002. During her time in the United States on a tennis scholarship, Coryn excelled academically, achieving inclusion in the “Who’s Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges in America” after graduating Magna Cum Laude.
Upon her return to South Africa, Coryn completed her community service year at Red Cross Children’s Hospital in 2003 and has since pursued numerous advanced courses to enhance her skills. Notably, she earned a Post-Graduate Diploma in Pain Management from the University of Cape Town in 2021, graduating with distinction. In 2022, she furthered her expertise by completing the Advanced Neuromuscular Skeletal (ANMS) course through Wits University.
Coryn’s passion lies in aquatic physiotherapy, which she has pursued extensively. She is one of the few qualified Watsu practitioners in South Africa, having trained under the renowned Peggy Schoedinger. She also studied advanced aquatic techniques in Switzerland under aquatic physiotherapy pioneers Johan Lambeck and Urs Gamper. Coryn has a profound interest in helping people recover from chronic and acute pain, and she specialises in treating neuro-musculoskeletal conditions using her advanced clinical reasoning skills.
Her dedication to rehabilitation and improving clients’ quality of life led to the design and construction of a unique aquatic physiotherapy centre, designed with each client’s needs in mind. The centre is fully wheelchair accessible, with an electric hoist available to assist clients with severe disabilities.
Coryn Katz offers specialised aquatic physiotherapy, which has been proven to be highly effective for a wide variety of conditions. The therapeutic benefits of water allow clients to recover faster from injuries or surgery, as well as improve their overall functional ability. Coryn’s approach ensures that each treatment is personalised to meet the specific needs of every individual.
Aquatic physiotherapy is an excellent treatment option for those looking to rehabilitate from surgery or injury. The buoyancy of water supports the body, reducing the impact on joints while allowing patients to engage in therapeutic exercises. This treatment is especially beneficial for those with mobility issues or those recovering from operations.
Coryn is particularly skilled in managing chronic and acute pain, using her extensive knowledge and advanced techniques to help clients achieve pain relief and functional recovery. Aquatic therapy provides a soothing environment for pain management, particularly for conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic back pain.
Aquatic physiotherapy is especially effective for patients with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s, strokes, traumatic brain injuries, and Multiple Sclerosis. Water therapy helps improve balance, coordination, and mobility, allowing patients to regain independence and improve their quality of life.
Whether recovering from hip, knee, or shoulder surgery or managing degenerative spinal conditions, aquatic physiotherapy helps restore strength, flexibility, and mobility. It is an ideal treatment for those who need to minimise weight-bearing while recovering.
Aquatic physiotherapy is a proven method for rehabilitating sport injuries, providing an effective platform for injury recovery without placing undue stress on the body. From tennis elbow to sprained ankles, aquatic therapy promotes faster recovery and prevents reinjury.
Coryn’s therapy is also beneficial for post-natal mothers looking to regain their strength and for individuals suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Water therapy offers a calming environment to aid physical and emotional recovery.
For patients recovering from heart conditions, aquatic therapy can enhance cardiovascular fitness and improve overall health. The low-impact nature of water-based exercises makes it safe and effective for those recovering from cardiac issues.
Coryn’s aquatic physiotherapy centre is specifically designed to support a wide range of patients. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and an electric hoist ensures that even the most severely disabled clients can enter the pool safely. The centre is purpose-built to provide a comfortable, supportive, and professional environment, tailored to each client’s needs.
Coryn believes in the power of rehabilitation to help clients regain optimal functioning. With a strong background in pain management, neuromuscular skeletal treatment, and aquatic therapy, Coryn offers a comprehensive approach that treats both the physical and emotional aspects of recovery.
Coryn’s love for sports, including tennis, marathon running, and Ironman triathlons, fuels her dedication to helping clients return to an optimal level of function. She understands the challenges of recovering from injury and is committed to supporting each individual’s rehabilitation journey.
