At Vita Oncology, we are dedicated to providing expert cancer treatment with a compassionate approach. The name “Vita” symbolises life, reflecting our commitment to helping patients continue living meaningfully despite a cancer diagnosis. Founded in 1991 by Dr Alma van der Merwe, our practice has grown to include a team of highly skilled oncologists: Dr Anna-Marie Visser (2000), Dr George Loots (2007), Dr Ilze Fourie (2018), and Dr Louis Cordier (2021).
We operate from two key locations: 17 Solway Street in Bellville and the Cape Gate Oncology Centre in Kraaifontein. Additionally, we collaborate with radiotherapy units at Panorama, Rondebosch, and N1 City to ensure comprehensive care.
At Vita Oncology, we believe in a multidisciplinary approach to cancer treatment. Our patients benefit from expert discussions at combined clinics, where oncologists, surgeons, gynaecologists, urologists, radiologists, pathologists, and social workers work together to develop the best possible treatment plan.
Radiotherapy uses high-energy X-rays to target and destroy cancer cells while minimising damage to healthy tissue. We offer:
Chemotherapy involves medication administered orally or intravenously to destroy cancer cells. Side effects vary, and our team provides personalised guidance to help patients manage their treatment effectively.
This specialised treatment places small radioactive sources (seeds) directly in or near the tumour, delivering targeted radiation while minimising exposure to surrounding tissue.
Primarily used for thyroid cancer, this treatment involves taking a radioactive iodine tablet, which targets and destroys thyroid cancer cells. Patients receive treatment in an isolated hospital room and are discharged once radiation levels drop to a safe limit.
For patients with advanced cancer, we provide palliative care to enhance quality of life and maintain dignity. This may include:
Regular follow-ups are crucial for detecting cancer recurrence early. Our structured follow-up programmes help monitor patients and take prompt action when needed. Adhering to scheduled appointments can make a significant difference in treatment outcomes.
