Dr David Exon Gastroenterologist Leicester brings over two decades of surgical expertise to patients across the East Midlands. He specialises in upper gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, bariatric procedures, hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, acid reflux treatment, and diabetes-related surgical care. Moreover, he prioritises precision and patient comfort with every procedure.
In addition to his surgical excellence, Dr Exon provides comprehensive care at both Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital and Spire Leicester Hospital. Furthermore, he maintains a strong focus on patient outcomes, using minimally invasive techniques that reduce recovery times and improve overall satisfaction. Consequently, many patients seek out his care for complex gastrointestinal conditions.
Dr Exon completed his medical degree at the University of London. He trained at the prestigious Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine. Subsequently, he embarked on advanced surgical training, which included international placements in London and Hong Kong.
After returning to the UK, he joined the Northwest Thames rotation. Then, he secured a consultant position at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee. There, he served with distinction before relocating to Leicester in 2010.
Dr David Exon always aims to reduce surgical impact. Therefore, he favours laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques whenever appropriate. Over the course of his career, he has successfully completed more than 1,500 laparoscopic procedures. Notably, he refined this skill during fellowship training with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, and Ireland.
Likewise, these methods offer faster recovery and minimal scarring. Hence, his patients experience improved quality of life after surgery.
In contrast to surgeons who only focus on clinical practice, Dr Exon also values academic excellence. Prior to his consultant career, he served as a clinical lecturer in oesophago-gastric surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Additionally, he is an active member of the Society of Academic and Research Surgery, where he contributes to innovations in surgical practice. As a result, he stays at the forefront of developments in gastroenterology and upper GI surgery.
For this reason, patients benefit from both his technical skill and his ongoing commitment to learning.
