Dr Terri Elizabeth Henderson is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist practising at Akeso Kenilworth Clinic in Kenilworth, Cape Town. Moreover, she earned her MBChB from the University of Cape Town (UCT). Subsequently, she completed specialist psychiatry training at Valkenberg, Lentegeur, and Groote Schuur Hospitals.
Additionally, she pursued fellowship-level training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. As a general practitioner, she served in rural settings and worked as a bush doctor in the Sabi Sands Reserve. Consequently, she developed a deep understanding of community mental health needs. Since 2011, she has focused exclusively on child and adolescent mental health.
During her tenure at UCT, she led inpatient units and helped develop specialised services for younger patients. Furthermore, she contributed to establishing age-appropriate group therapy programs. Her work emphasises early intervention and family-centred care.
At Akeso Kenilworth Clinic, Dr Henderson leads a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists. The clinic features state-of-the-art play therapy rooms, secure telepsychiatry platforms, and child-friendly assessment suites. This environment ensures each young patient receives comfortable, confidential care.
