Anaesthesiologist Dr Joubert Slabber leads perioperative care at Cape Gate Anaesthesia, based in Mediclinic Cape Gate Hospital and its Day Clinic in Brackenfell. Moreover, he brings over two decades of expertise in safe, patient-centred anaesthesia.
He graduated MBChB from the University of Pretoria in 2001, then completed his internship in Scotland. Subsequently, he obtained Fellowship of the College of Anaesthesiologists (FCA SA) in 2008 and MMed (Anaesthesiology) from the University of Stellenbosch in 2009. Furthermore, he maintains active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and membership in the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists.
Meanwhile, Dr Slabber volunteers in community outreach programmes, providing sedation and pain-management expertise to underserved patients. Outside the hospital, he enjoys trail running and bird watching, pursuits that sharpen his focus and resilience. Consequently, his calm demeanour and clear communication foster patient trust before, during, and after every procedure.
Dr Slabber offers a comprehensive spectrum of anaesthesia and perioperative services, each delivered with precision and empathy:

Cape Gate Anaesthesia operates within Mediclinic Cape Gate’s modern operating theatres, which feature the latest ventilators and multimodal monitoring systems. Furthermore, a dedicated day-case sedation unit supports minor procedures with minimal hospital stay.
A secure digital patient portal provides pre-admission instructions, appointment scheduling, and direct messaging with Dr Slabber. Consequently, patients experience streamlined communication and reduced anxiety. Moreover, enhanced-recovery-after-surgery (ERAS) protocols facilitate faster discharge.
Dr Slabber collaborates with a multidisciplinary perioperative team—including surgeons, critical-care specialists, and physiotherapists—to craft personalized care pathways. Additionally, multilingual staff communicate in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa, ensuring clear explanations.
