About Us

Newid Psychotherapy and Counselling, based in Wrexham, is led by Paul Christoph Mitchell. He is a psychotherapist and mental health nurse with over 40 years of experience. Paul works with individuals, couples, groups, families, and organisations. He provides compassionate and effective therapeutic support tailored to their needs.

For more than ten years, Paul acted as Clinical Lead. He specialised in treatment programmes for people who self-harm within the North Wales and Mersey Care NHS trusts. His leadership helped deliver specialised care in complex mental health settings.

Paul has also held many senior roles, including Principal Psychotherapist, Mental Health Commissioner, Group Therapist, Psychotherapy Trainer, Consultant, Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) Manager, Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN), and Mental Health Nurse. This broad experience covers all major mental health specialisms. As a result, he has a deep understanding of complex therapeutic needs.

He is registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Paul holds an MA, Postgraduate Diploma, and Postgraduate Certificate in Integrative Psychotherapy. Additionally, he has an RMN qualification, a Diploma in Supervision, a Certificate in Psychosocial Interventions, Associate Teaching Membership of the Society for Psychotherapy Training and Integration (SPTI), and a Foundation qualification in Group Analysis.

Furthermore, Paul sits on the Board of Directors for the Scarborough Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute (SCPTI). He works as a Senior Trainer and has previously led the UKCP-accredited four-year Diploma in Relational Integrative Psychotherapy.
