Dr Henk Maritz Obstetrician Gynaecologist Durbanville was born and raised in rural KwaZulu-Natal. He comes from a family of medical practitioners, with both his father and grandfather running medical practices while farming. From a young age, Dr Maritz knew he wanted to become a doctor. He recalls, “My father saved my life twice when I was a boy. I wanted to do the same for others.”

He completed his MBChB at the University of Pretoria in 2013. During his early career, he gained experience in trauma work at a leading trauma centre in rural KZN. His passion for Obstetrics and Gynaecology began in 2016 when he substituted in a labour ward. The experience showed him the importance of sensitive and tailored care where women feel comfortable expressing their needs.

Training and Experience

In 2018, Dr Maritz began his Obstetrics and Gynaecology residency in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. He trained extensively in high-risk obstetrics, critical care, urogynaecology, gynae-oncology, family planning, infertility, and gynaecological surgery. In 2022, he joined a busy North Coast regional unit, focusing on labour care and preventing unnecessary caesarean sections while ensuring the health of both mother and baby.
