Our History

  • 17 February 1945 – An Executive Committee of 19 members was elected, and a Draft Constitution was adopted.
  • March 1945 – A public meeting at Cape Town City Hall formally announced the establishment of the MJC. The Constitution was read out and approved.
  • This body continues to operate today and provides strategic religious oversight.
  • 1945 onwards – The MJC began Halaal inspections, which laid the foundation for Halaal certification in South Africa.
  • 1984 – The MJC Head Office moved to Cashel Avenue, Athlone, using a former church as its administrative headquarters.
