Meet Dr. Herman Uÿs

Dr. Herman Uÿs completed his dental training at the University of Pretoria in 1997. He then worked in general dentistry in the UK before specialising in orthodontics. By 2004, he had completed his specialist training, and in 2007, he obtained his intercollegiate specialty fellowship. After returning to South Africa in 2007, he established practices in Pretoria and Benoni. Dr. Uÿs continuously advances his expertise by attending local and international conferences. He offers a wide range of orthodontic treatments and specialises in treating Class III malocclusions. He also provides aesthetic treatment options, including ClearPath aligners and Incognito Lingual braces.

Early Treatment

We assess children as young as seven to detect potential orthodontic issues early. When necessary, we begin treatment between ages six and eight to guide proper jaw and tooth development. Early intervention prevents future complications and ensures a healthier smile.

Orthodontic Appliances

Removable Appliances

We use removable plates to make minor tooth adjustments, especially in younger patients. These appliances, worn for 22 hours daily, allow for easy removal when eating or brushing. However, patients must wear them consistently to achieve optimal results.

Functional Appliances

We use functional appliances to correct bite problems by guiding the growth of the jaw. Since these appliances depend on patient cooperation, wearing them as instructed ensures the best possible outcome.

Conventional Fixed Appliances (Braces)

We fit metal braces, commonly known as “train tracks,” to correct tooth misalignment. These cost-effective braces offer precise adjustments and produce long-lasting results. Patients can personalise their braces by choosing coloured rubber bands.

Ceramic Fixed Appliances

We provide ceramic braces made from clear materials for patients who prefer a discreet orthodontic solution. These braces blend with the natural colour of teeth and offer an aesthetic alternative to metal braces.

Invisible Fixed Appliances (Lingual Braces)

We attach lingual braces to the back (lingual side) of the teeth, making them invisible when you smile. Since we customise these braces for each patient, they offer maximum comfort and precision.

Dental Aligners

We offer ClearPath and Invisalign aligners for patients who want a nearly invisible orthodontic solution. These clear trays straighten teeth gradually and can be removed for eating and cleaning. However, they work best for mild to moderate alignment issues. Since aligners require strict patient compliance, wearing them consistently ensures the best results.

Orthodontic Mini-Implants (TADs)
