Yabonga Children’s Project Khayelitsha

Founded in 1998, Yabonga Children’s Project Khayelitsha began as a support initiative for women who ran informal creches in their backyards. Today, Yabonga runs a dedicated children’s centre in Khayelitsha and welcomes 200 children daily. The project provides food, care, and support while empowering women who work as caregivers.

Yabonga Children’s Project Khayelitsha Services

Yabonga supports children and families through several community-based programmes. Each programme meets important needs while helping caregivers gain useful skills and confidence.

Community Mothers

Community Mothers provide after-school programmes and serve meals in their homes. As a result, children receive care within their own communities. Donations also support training in play therapy, life skills, and educational techniques. This training helps Community Mothers engage with and support children more effectively.

Yabonga Children’s Project Khayelitsha Children’s Centre

The Yabonga Children’s Centre offers children in Khayelitsha a safe and caring place. The centre provides food, academic support, arts, and sports activities. Every day, the centre serves meals to over 200 children, helping them receive the nourishment they need to grow and thrive.

Respite Programme

The Respite Programme offers temporary residential care for children aged five to ten who have experienced abuse or neglect. Support helps Yabonga create personalised care plans and provide ongoing assistance. In this way, each child receives the emotional and physical care needed to heal and move forward.
