Liza Stemmet Speech Therapist Cape Town is a qualified speech and language therapist with experience in both paediatric and adult therapy. She holds a BA in English and Linguistics from UNISA, completed in 2013, and a BSc Honours in Speech and Language Pathology from UCT, completed in 2016. She is fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans.
Liza has worked across public healthcare, private practice, and academia. From 2019 to 2021, she worked as a Clinical Supervisor at UCT. She also served as Head of Speech Therapy at Tswaragano District Hospital. In private practice, she gained experience in neurological and paediatric speech therapy.
She currently works at Tygerberg Hospice Trust, where she specialises in stroke and brain injury rehabilitation. Her wide experience allows her to support both children and adults with different speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs.
Liza provides speech therapy for children with speech and language delays. She also helps children who have articulation and pronunciation difficulties. In addition, she provides stuttering treatment.
Furthermore, Liza works with children who have Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). She adapts therapy to each person’s needs and uses an approach that supports progress.
Liza provides rehabilitation for adults who have experienced a stroke or traumatic brain injury. She also helps with swallowing difficulties through dysphagia management.
In addition, she supports people with voice disorders and communication challenges. She also provides support for progressive neurological conditions. Therefore, her adult speech therapy covers a range of communication and rehabilitation needs.
Liza starts with a comprehensive case history and assessment. She uses both standardised and informal assessment methods. Then, she creates individualised therapy plans based on each person’s needs.
She also provides ongoing support for patients and their families. However, therapy duration can vary. Progress, response to treatment, and family involvement can all affect how long therapy takes.
Liza’s approach focuses on caring, respect, and creativity. Caring means helping each patient reach their full potential. Respect means creating a trusted and supportive therapy environment.
Finally, creativity allows Liza to adapt her techniques. As a result, she can make sessions engaging while keeping them focused on each person’s needs.
