Hannes Van Aartsen Physiotherapist Alberton is a leading expert in intensive care physiotherapy and cardiac rehabilitation. He has been a partner in our practice since 2012. Hannes holds a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of the Witwatersrand, which he completed with distinction in 2010. He further advanced his education with a Master of Science in Physiotherapy in 2016, focusing on the cardiopulmonary field.
Hannes Van Aartsen Physiotherapist Alberton is particularly passionate about the management of patients after cardiothoracic surgery. He leads the cardiac rehabilitation programme at our rehabilitation centre in the MediMix at Newmarket, Alberton. His role includes attending to patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), medical and surgical wards, and paediatric wards at Life Roseacres Hospital, Life Bedford Gardens Hospital, and Netcare Alberton Hospital.
By combining his expertise and hands-on approach, Hannes helps improve the recovery outcomes for patients with complex cardiopulmonary conditions. He provides tailored care to accelerate their rehabilitation, enabling them to regain independence and improve their quality of life.
Hannes is not only a skilled physiotherapist but also an accomplished leader in the field. He served as the vice-chairperson of the South Gauteng Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Group within the South African Society of Physiotherapy (SASP) from 2012 to 2013. Hannes has also supervised and examined Wits undergraduate physiotherapy students, guiding them through the cardiopulmonary field.
Additionally, he lectures on post-graduate physiotherapy cardiopulmonary courses. By teaching and mentoring future physiotherapists, Hannes ensures that his expertise reaches beyond his direct patient care. He remains dedicated to advancing the field of physiotherapy, particularly in cardiopulmonary care.
Outside of work, Hannes enjoys spending time in nature. He loves both the coast and the bush, finding peace and relaxation in these environments. Hannes is also a keen rugby supporter and enjoys mountain biking as a way to stay active. Spending time with family is very important to him. In addition, he finds solace in listening to music, which allows him to unwind after a busy day.
