Dr Steven Lapere is a highly skilled ophthalmologist specialising in retinal disorders and cataract surgery. With extensive local and international training, he provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of eye conditions. His passion for retinal health and vision restoration ensures that patients receive the highest standard of care.
Operating from Melrose Clinic in Claremont, Cape Town, Dr Lapere offers comprehensive eye care, using advanced surgical techniques and cutting-edge medical treatments.
Dr Lapere was born and raised in Port Elizabeth. He completed his medical degree at the University of the Free State in 2006, followed by a two-year internship at Pietermaritzburg Hospital Complex and community service at Kimberley Hospital. During this time, he also obtained a Diploma in Anaesthetics.
His journey into ophthalmology began at Mankweng Eye Unit in Limpopo, where he worked as a medical officer and earned a Diploma in Ophthalmology. He then gained further experience as a senior house officer at the West of England Eye Unit in Exeter, UK, where he developed a passion for retinal diseases.
Dr Lapere completed his specialist ophthalmology training at Groote Schuur Hospital through the University of Cape Town. He furthered his expertise with a two-year fellowship in Surgical Retina, Medical Retina, and Ocular Oncology at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Canada (2015–2017).
Dr Lapere is committed to medical research and has presented at both national and international conferences. His research publications contribute to advancements in ophthalmology and can be accessed through various professional journals.
