Description

Christine Buchanan – Neuropsychologist – Claremont

Christine Buchanan Neuropsychologist leads the neuropsychology team at Perspectives Psychology Group in Claremont, Cape Town. Christine Buchanan Neuropsychologist transitioned into mental health after a successful corporate and IT career. Initially, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Psychology and an Honours degree in Psychology from the University of Johannesburg, where a focus on neuropsychology first captivated her interest.

Subsequently, she completed the B.Psych (Registered Counsellor) equivalence programme at UNISA, gaining hands-on experience during a practicum with Headway Gauteng, an NGO supporting survivors of acquired brain injury. While volunteering there, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Research Psychology, conducting a dissertation on decision-making in individuals with acquired brain injury across diverse socio-economic backgrounds.

For thirteen years at Headway Gauteng, Christine served as Therapy Manager and then Manager of Counselling and Support. During that time, she oversaw multidisciplinary programmes in Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Biokinetics, and Psychology. Consequently, she developed deep expertise in rare neurological conditions and holistic rehabilitation.

When the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) opened a register for neuropsychology in 2019, Christine’s extensive practice and continual professional development qualified her for registration as a Neuropsychologist under the HPCSA’s grandfather clause. Today, she applies neuropsychotherapeutic and cognitive-behavioral methods to help clients adjust to chronic conditions, recover from brain injuries, and embrace their “new normal.”
