Complications of Angina

Complications of Angina

If angina is not managed properly, it can lead to serious and life-threatening complications. Complications of angina is a red flag that your heart is struggling — and ignoring it can have devastating consequences.

1. Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction)

  • The most serious complication
  • Occurs when a coronary artery is completely blocked, cutting off blood supply
  • Can cause permanent heart damage or death

2. Heart Failure

  • Chronic lack of blood flow weakens the heart muscle over time
  • Leads to shortness of breath, fatigue, and fluid buildup

3. Arrhythmias

  • Irregular heartbeats that can lead to palpitations, dizziness, or fainting

4. Sudden Cardiac Arrest Due To Complications of Angina

  • A severe heart rhythm problem may cause the heart to stop beating
  • Requires immediate CPR and defibrillation

5. Reduced Quality of Life

  • Recurrent angina can interfere with daily activities, cause anxiety, and lead to depression

Prevention of Complications

  • Control risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol
  • Take medications exactly as prescribed
  • Report worsening symptoms immediately
  • Attend all follow-up appointments and cardiac rehab if advised

With early diagnosis, consistent treatment, and healthy living, many people with angina can lead full and active lives.
