Lennard Funk Shoulder Surgeon Cheshire is a leading name in shoulder care across the UK. I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a focused practice in shoulder surgery. Based at The Wilmslow Hospital as part of The Arm Clinic, I specialise in treating sports-related and soft tissue injuries of the shoulder.
Since 2002, I have worked exclusively in shoulder surgery. Over the years, my expertise has evolved to handle complex injuries, second opinions, and revision surgeries. I regularly collaborate with surgeons skilled in trauma and shoulder replacement, ensuring well-rounded care. In addition, I work closely with therapists who specialise in managing elite sports injuries and challenging shoulder conditions.
My guiding principle is always to act in the patient’s best interest. Surgery is not always the first or only option. Therefore, I often recommend non-surgical treatments when appropriate. Furthermore, I aim to empower patients by providing educational resources through my website, ShoulderDoc. Patients appreciate learning more about their conditions before making informed decisions.
In parallel with my clinical work, I actively contribute to academic research and education. I have authored several books and over 100 peer-reviewed articles on shoulder surgery and rehabilitation. I also enjoy teaching and regularly lecture undergraduate and postgraduate students in medicine, sports therapy, and sports medicine. Currently, I serve as an Honorary Professor at the University of Salford.
Transparency is a key part of my professional values. In compliance with the CMA Order 2014, I disclose my roles and financial interests. I serve as a consultant for Arthrex and Smith & Nephew and hold directorships with The Arm Clinic, Manchester Shoulder Clinic, and ShoulderDoc. I also provide advisory services for HCA UK and am an investment partner of The Wilmslow Hospital.
Please note that I am not part of the BUPA Open Referral Network. This is due to a specific criterion related to MRI scan frequency, which I have discussed with BUPA. Many of my patients come to me for second opinions, often requiring repeat MRIs due to previous inadequate scans. I am working to resolve this issue and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
