Jan Mount Senior Speech and Language Therapist Ashford brings 36 years of dedicated experience to children, families, and carers. She offers tailored therapy across various settings, always prioritizing clear communication and impactful results. Jan has worked with children of all ages in homes, schools, hospitals, and clinics. She provides practical, hands-on interventions that make a lasting difference.
Before starting her independent practice, Jan worked in the NHS since 1995 across Kent. She ended her NHS career as Therapy Manager at East Kent Hospitals University Foundation NHS Trust. In that role, she led Speech and Language Therapy, Paediatric Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy services. During this time, she maintained a clinical caseload in Primary Schools and within CAMHS, focusing on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments.
Jan also served as the Specific Language Impairment Specialist. She guided a Kent-wide shift to the term Developmental Language Disorder. Her leadership helped streamline diagnoses and improve care pathways. Furthermore, her multiagency collaboration ensured consistency and quality in complex clinical cases.
She offers therapy services in a specialist school environment. She works with primary and secondary-aged children, many diagnosed with ASD or a range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). She provides classroom-based strategies, one-on-one therapy, and consultation for school staff.
Her practical, collaborative approach ensures children receive the support they need across both home and school settings. Moreover, Jan helps teams apply communication strategies that foster independence and self-confidence.
Jan also supports foster carers and professionals working with children diagnosed with ASD. She conducts detailed assessments that inform care and educational strategies. Her insight allows foster families to better understand each child’s needs and strengths.
In addition, Jan trains carers and professionals in effective communication techniques. She ensures they can create environments where children feel understood and supported.
Jan is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is also a proud member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). These affiliations demonstrate her continued commitment to excellence and ethical practice.
