Terri King CBT Therapist Southampton brings a wealth of experience and dedication to mental health care. She began her journey in the NHS, where she served as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. Her transition to Priory in 2017 marked a new chapter in helping individuals navigate and overcome a wide range of mental health challenges.
From the outset, Terri has focused on supporting individuals facing anxiety and depression. However, she is extensively trained to work across various mental health conditions. She uses evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to empower clients to explore the origins of their struggles, understand what perpetuates them, and learn practical strategies to improve their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Terri holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology with Counselling, a Master of Science in Health Psychology, and a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT. Her academic and clinical background ensures her therapy is grounded in both science and empathy.
She trained at the renowned Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre, where she gained advanced skills in treating a broader range of disorders. These include conditions not always addressed within standard NHS Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services. Her training allows her to offer deeper, more personalized support to clients who need more than traditional approaches.
Terri follows the ethical code set by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), of which she is an accredited member. This ensures that all her clients receive therapy grounded in professionalism, compassion, and clinical excellence.
With a direct and goal-oriented approach, Terri helps individuals build insight and develop effective coping strategies. Her sessions are structured, collaborative, and always tailored to the unique needs of the client.
Terri’s commitment to mental health goes beyond one-to-one sessions. She has conducted research in positive psychology, focusing on happiness interventions. Additionally, her work with children recovering from brain tumors examined their long-term quality of life after surgery—a testament to her dedication to long-term well-being.
