Andrew Shaw Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist Manchester uses a compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy. He tailors each treatment to the individual’s unique needs and life context. His method always starts by building trust and understanding. This alliance helps clients overcome fear and uncertainty about change, allowing them to focus on growth and recovery.
Clients often feel stuck when facing complex issues. However, Andrew empowers them by promoting hope and belief in their capacity for change. Through a structured yet empathetic process, he ensures clients feel heard, supported, and respected.
Andrew’s therapeutic style blends clinical excellence with deep empathy. He creates a safe space where clients can explore their challenges without judgment. His work considers the stigma and discrimination often linked to mental health, especially addiction.
Crucially, he strengthens the therapeutic alliance by actively listening and responding to client concerns. This trust helps drive long-term success.
Andrew joined the Priory in 2012 as a mental health nurse. After gaining experience in acute psychiatric care, he pursued his passion for psychotherapy. Since 2014, he has served as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist, delivering both group and one-to-one therapy.
He works within a dedicated, multidisciplinary team. Together, they provide evidence-based treatments aligned with NICE guidelines. These programmes promote lasting recovery and resilience.
Andrew often supports clients with dual diagnoses. His practical yet compassionate care helps them develop coping strategies and meet personal goals. Additionally, he has led an eight-week CBT-based programme for depression. He also co-facilitated a mindfulness-based stress reduction programme (MBSR).
His commitment to structured, results-oriented therapy has helped countless individuals move toward recovery.
Andrew earned a BSc in mental health from Salford University in 2013. He trained in various clinical settings, including psychiatric hospitals, forensic units, and community teams. This broad exposure enriched his understanding of complex mental health needs.
Later, he completed a postgraduate diploma in cognitive behavioural psychotherapy. This included training in anxiety, addiction, depression, and third wave interventions such as ACT, mindfulness, and CFT. His continued education includes:
MRE training
MBSR/MBCT teacher training
Advanced CFT and trauma-focused courses

Schema therapy certification in 2021
