Leanne Hayward Consultant Psychiatrist Bristol brings decades of experience to every consultation. She provides outstanding psychiatric care across a wide range of mental health conditions. With specialised training in general adult, liaison, and perinatal psychiatry, she supports adults and families through every stage of life.
Dr Hayward began her medical career in 2001. Since then, she has consistently delivered excellence within the NHS. Her first Consultant appointment came in 2014 at Great Western Hospital, Swindon. There, she developed and led comprehensive psychiatric services for both Working Age and Older Adults.
Soon after, her leadership capabilities earned her the role of Acting Medical Lead for Swindon. In 2016, she was appointed Perinatal Clinical Lead for Avon and Wiltshire Partnership NHS Trust. She successfully launched a pioneering community mental health service covering Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire.
Dr Hayward provides highly personalised treatment at the Priory Bristol Wellbeing Centre and The Priory Hospital, Holbrook Ward. Her outpatient and inpatient services cover a wide variety of psychiatric needs. She works closely with skilled therapists to coordinate therapeutic interventions as needed.
From general psychiatric care to targeted perinatal mental health support, Dr Hayward ensures that each person receives appropriate, compassionate treatment. Whether dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, or perinatal mood disorders, patients benefit from her holistic, evidence-based approach.
Dr Hayward completed her medical degree at Leicester Medical School and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2010. She also holds a Master’s in Medical Leadership from Warwick Business School and is an ILM-7 Executive Coach.
These qualifications enable her to combine deep clinical knowledge with strong leadership and coaching skills. This unique blend enhances her ability to support both individuals and organisations.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Hayward contributes significantly to education and public engagement. She has served as the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Public Engagement Officer for the South West, regularly appearing on BBC Television and radio.
Dr Hayward has authored national guidelines and published numerous peer-reviewed articles. Her commitment to mental health innovation ensures that her practice remains at the forefront of psychiatric care.
Dr Hayward’s published research includes work on diabetes, mental health, and service design. She has authored educational leaflets, written columns for national magazines, and led major collaborative projects.
Her research expertise informs her clinical work, ensuring that patients receive treatment grounded in the latest science and best practice.
