At our Southport-based clinic, we offer specialised physiotherapy services designed for women recovering from breast cancer. We understand how breast cancer treatment affects the body, not just during the process, but long after. Our care is tailored, practical, and focused on restoring your quality of life. Whether you’re struggling with shoulder pain, cording, post-surgical scars, or lymphoedema, we’re here to help you feel strong and supported.
Led by Jodie Robertson-Smith, a physiotherapist with more than 30 years of clinical experience, our approach combines science with compassion. Jodie holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy and a Graduate Diploma in Burns and Trauma Rehabilitation, and she brings decades of hands-on knowledge to every session. With a strong background in musculoskeletal care, women’s health, and lymphoedema management, she supports women throughout every stage of their recovery journey.
Shoulder Pain & Cording
After surgery, radiation, or lymph node removal, many women experience shoulder or chest pain and a condition called cording (Axillary Web Syndrome). This may feel like tight, rope-like bands beneath the skin and can limit your range of movement. With gentle, guided physiotherapy exercises, we can help ease the tension and bring back mobility.
Scar Management & Radiation Fibrosis
Surgical scars and radiation-related tissue changes can affect movement and comfort. We use techniques like scar massage, silicone gel sheets, hydration guidance, and sun protection strategies to soften the tissue, improve appearance, and reduce tightness.
Safe Return to Exercise
After treatment, returning to movement should never be rushed. We create exercise plans that are safe, gradual, and tailored to your personal condition. The goal is to rebuild strength, improve energy, and support long-term health.
Lymphoedema Prevention & Management
Lymphoedema is a long-term condition involving fluid build-up, often after lymph node removal. Early intervention and prevention are key. We offer manual lymphatic drainage, prescribe compression garments, and teach exercises and skin care routines to help manage swelling and improve comfort.
Women’s Health Support
Hormone Blocking Treatments may lead to pelvic floor problems, bladder changes, or reduced bone density. With targeted exercises and ongoing support, we help you manage these side effects and maintain your well-being.
You don’t need to navigate your recovery alone. At our Southport clinic, every appointment is designed to meet you where you are—physically and emotionally. We’re not just treating symptoms; we’re helping you regain your confidence and control.
