Yasmin DeAlwis Consultant Neurodisabilities Paediatrician Newcastle offers expert, compassionate care for children with complex developmental needs. Based at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle, Dr Yasmin DeAlwis brings years of specialised training and heartfelt commitment to each child she supports.
Her work focuses on children with Cerebral Palsy, postural and movement challenges, feeding difficulties (dysphagia), and associated visual impairments. Above all, she prioritises improving function and participation in everyday life.
Dr DeAlwis began her medical journey at the Sri Jayewardanepura Faculty of Medical Sciences in Colombo. After graduating, she pursued further training in the UK and entered specialist paediatric training in 2010. Because of her unwavering dedication, she completed specialist training in Paediatric Neurodisability within the Northern Deanery by 2016.
Throughout her career, Dr DeAlwis has stayed focused on her goal: to enable children with disabilities to thrive. She works tirelessly to provide tailored, goal-directed treatment plans for her young patients.
With over a decade of experience, Dr DeAlwis applies a holistic approach. Not only does she assess complex neurodevelopmental conditions, but she also addresses long-term health needs. She believes that every child deserves individualised care that supports both medical and developmental progress.
Her expertise includes posture, movement, and feeding difficulties, as well as visual impairments often seen in neurodisability. Transition planning, from child to adult services, is another area where her involvement proves invaluable.
