Paul Dorman Consultant Neurologist Newcastle leads neurological care at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) Neurosciences Centre. He specialises in headache disorders, transient ischaemic attack (TIA), stroke neurology, and epilepsy. As a highly experienced clinician, Dr Dorman combines advanced treatments with patient-focused care. Consequently, patients receive personalised strategies that address their specific neurological conditions.
Dr Dorman joined the RVI as a consultant neurologist in 2000. Since then, he has developed a strong reputation for managing complex headache disorders. Furthermore, his expertise extends to both acute neurological events and chronic neurological conditions. He continually introduces innovative approaches to improve patient outcomes.
Dr Dorman completed a visiting Professorship programme at the Jefferson Headache Clinic in Philadelphia. There, he gained exposure to world-class headache management techniques. After returning to Newcastle, he founded a specialist headache service at the RVI for patients across the North East. Additionally, he introduced new headache interventions, including cranial nerve blocks and Botox injections. These methods provide relief for patients who have not responded to traditional therapies.
To enhance patient outcomes further, Dr Dorman established a multidisciplinary headache and oro-facial pain clinic in collaboration with Newcastle Dental School. This team approach allows patients to benefit from coordinated care involving neurologists, dentists, and other specialists. As a result, patients experience comprehensive management and improved quality of life.
Dr Dorman serves as the clinical lead for the TIA (mini-stroke) service at the RVI. Under his guidance, the service quickly identifies and treats patients at risk of major strokes. Moreover, he educates patients on prevention strategies, significantly reducing future complications. His proactive approach ensures timely interventions and effective management of vascular neurological conditions.
In addition to headache and TIA care, Dr Dorman established the epilepsy service at the University Hospital of North Durham. By introducing structured care pathways, he enhanced the region’s ability to diagnose and manage epilepsy. Consequently, patients receive consistent monitoring, effective medication management, and access to the latest treatment options.
Dr Dorman combines decades of experience with innovative treatment methods. Furthermore, his patient-centered approach ensures that neurological care in Newcastle remains exceptional.
