Amy O’Gorman Nurse Consultant London brings over 15 years of dedicated experience as a registered paediatric nurse. Her passion lies in supporting children and young people facing complex emotional and mental health challenges. From community-based settings to inpatient care, Amy’s career has spanned a variety of environments where she consistently prioritises young people’s wellbeing.
In previous roles, Amy led a skilled nursing team that supported individuals up to 18 years old. She worked extensively with patients dealing with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Her clinical leadership in both inpatient and intensive community settings contributed to countless recovery journeys.
Amy holds an MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy from Birkbeck. Additionally, she completed the MBT-A training programme at the Anna Freud Centre. This robust training enables her to offer individual therapy and structured group sessions tailored to the needs of young people and their families.
Drawing from a variety of therapeutic models, Amy incorporates psychodynamic theory, CBT and DBT principles, motivational interviewing, play therapy, and a solution-focused approach. This diverse toolkit ensures that interventions are flexible and responsive to each client’s unique circumstances.
Amy’s practice revolves around the young person as part of a family system. She collaborates closely with both children and their carers, promoting strengths within the family unit and nurturing healthier relationships. Through this systemic lens, treatment becomes a shared journey rather than an isolated process.
Amy O’Gorman Nurse Consultant London believes in the power of a strong therapeutic alliance. She works to build trust with each young person and their family through active listening, genuine interest, and positive regard. Her approach balances compassion with consistency, validation with challenge, and curiosity with care.
Furthermore, she welcomes open discussion about difficult emotions. Amy doesn’t shy away from painful or conflicting feelings. Instead, she encourages exploration and understanding. This approach, combined with her sensitivity and playfulness, lays the foundation for deep and lasting therapeutic change.
