Anita Chellamah Addiction & Trauma Therapist London began her professional life in the spotlight, working in TV, film, and music. However, personal struggles with addiction and unresolved childhood trauma led her to a breaking point. Anita chose recovery in 1988 and has remained clean and sober ever since. This turning point inspired her to dedicate her life to helping others find the same freedom.
Anita didn’t just overcome her challenges—she transformed them into a mission. She qualified as a humanistic (person-centred) counsellor at Roehampton Institute in 1998. Since then, she has worked in 11 different treatment centres, delivering high-impact therapy focused on addiction, trauma, and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). Thanks to her lived experience, she brings unmatched empathy and effectiveness to her work.
Her approach is practical, structured, and rooted in compassion. Anita always meets clients where they are, empowering them to build healthier lives. She combines evidence-based practices with deep insight, giving each individual the tools to heal and grow.
Anita is a respected figure at Priory Hospital North London, where she delivers a specialist trauma programme. Between 2019 and 2021, she served as a full-time addiction therapist. During that time, she developed and delivered the trauma programme, which she continues to support as a sessional therapist today. Anita helps clients prepare for the programme and supports them after they complete it, ensuring lasting change.
Anita is an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). She also holds membership with Addiction Professionals, underscoring her commitment to ethical and professional standards. Her therapeutic skills have also supported domestic violence survivors during her leadership at Changing Pathways, a vital UK charity. Additionally, she contributed to a government pilot project assisting youth affected by addiction.
Anita provides support for a wide range of mental health and addiction-related issues. She is particularly passionate about treating trauma-related disorders and co-occurring conditions. Her services include:
