Anna Basu Consultant Paediatric Neurologist Newcastle offers trusted care for children with neurological conditions. She combines deep medical knowledge with a strong desire to help children thrive. Her approach is warm, skilled, and focused on early support.
Dr Anna Basu began her journey at Cambridge, where she studied medical science. She then completed her clinical studies at Oxford. After that, she trained in paediatrics across North East England. This strong foundation prepared her well for complex neurological work.
In 2007, she earned a PhD at Newcastle University. Her research focused on brain development in infants. Since then, she has built a career that blends science with hands-on care.
Over time, her research earned national attention. In 2013, she was awarded the NIHR Clinical Trials Fellowship. Just one year later, she received the NIHR Career Development Fellowship. These roles helped her expand her work in early brain development.
In 2019, she became a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University. This position lets her teach, guide research, and continue clinical work. Because of this mix, her care stays current and evidence-based.
Dr Basu works mainly with babies at high risk of brain injury. She focuses on spotting signs early and acting quickly. This gives children the best chance to grow and develop well.
She also treats children who have had a perinatal stroke. In many cases, these children have challenges with movement. She uses new treatments to improve hand use and function, especially in those with hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
Thanks to her research and clinical skills, families get up-to-date and well-rounded support.
Dr Anna Basu believes in working with families, not just treating patients. She listens closely and explains things clearly. As a result, parents feel confident and involved in care decisions.
She often works with therapists and other doctors to build strong support plans. Together, they help each child reach their full potential. By offering early care and expert advice, she changes lives across Newcastle.
