Annette Nel Occupational Therapist
About
Annette Nel is an Occupational Therapist based at Optima Rustenvrede Hospital in Stellenbosch. She brings a wealth of experience from diverse settings. Annette started her career in 2013 during her community service year in Welkom. There, she treated children with cerebral palsy and worked with parents, offering guidance on how to care for their children. This experience led Annette to adopt a holistic approach to therapy, seeing each patient not just for their condition but also considering their culture, socio-economic background, and personal meaning.
Annette’s journey continued at Witrand Psychiatric Hospital in Potchefstroom. There, she worked with patients diagnosed with mood disorders, substance abuse issues, psychotic disorders, and intellectual disabilities. She also volunteered at Thakaneng and Abraham Kriel Children’s Home, where she worked with children to build resilience and focus on self-esteem. In 2018, she gained clinical experience with adolescents at Life Poortview Private Psychiatric Hospital in Roodepoort.
In 2019, Annette took a sabbatical and volunteered at Alana’s Love, a daycare for children with disabilities. She helped develop their programs, gaining valuable insight into the needs of children. Annette returned to work at Optima Rustenvrede in 2020, where her vision aligned with the hospital’s. She brings fresh perspectives and a passion for holistic healing to her patients.
