Avika Daya Educational Psychologist Benoni dedicates herself to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, adolescents, and young adults. With her extensive experience and a deep passion for psychology, Avika actively works to provide effective support through a combination of play therapy, psychotherapy, and psychoeducational assessments. Her focus remains on understanding each individual’s unique needs while offering tailored interventions to promote both mental well-being and academic success.
From a young age, Avika Daya Educational Psychologist Benoni gained a profound understanding of children’s needs. Growing up in a preschool environment, where her mother served as the principal, Avika had early exposure to the emotional and educational challenges children face. Additionally, having struggled with anxiety as a child herself, she gained both empathy and insight, which now prove invaluable in her work with clients. Furthermore, growing up in a small Indian community allows Avika to connect deeply with families navigating culturally sensitive challenges, giving her a unique perspective on their needs.
Avika’s academic journey has equipped her with the knowledge and skills necessary to work effectively with children, families, and educators. She holds a BSc in Psychology (Wits), a BSc Honours with distinction (Wits), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Wits), and an M.Ed in Educational Psychology (Wits). These qualifications provide her with a robust foundation. Moreover, her postgraduate training enables her to combine both psychoanalytic and systemic approaches, giving her the ability to understand not only the child but also the broader system in which they live. This comprehensive perspective helps her create interventions that truly address the needs of the child and the family.
Avika’s approach to therapy includes play therapy, which enables children to explore their emotions and experiences through play. This technique proves especially effective for children aged 3 to 12, who often struggle to express themselves verbally. In a safe and comfortable playroom setting, children can engage freely in activities that reflect their inner world. Through this process, they learn to express emotions in healthier ways, develop empathy, and discover positive problem-solving strategies. Additionally, play therapy helps children address various challenges such as anxiety, school refusal, anger, and more.
Adolescence represents a challenging time filled with numerous changes. Avika Daya Educational Psychologist Benoni offers therapy to help adolescents manage issues like bullying, anxiety, stress, and relationship difficulties. Therapy provides a space where adolescents can explore their feelings in a healthy way. By learning coping strategies, they gain the tools they need to navigate this critical stage of life. As a result, they can build resilience and face challenges with confidence.
Avika offers comprehensive psychoeducational assessments that provide valuable insights into a child’s cognitive, emotional, and educational strengths and areas for growth. Through school readiness assessments, she evaluates a child’s readiness for Grade One. Additionally, her broader psychoeducational assessments offer recommendations that help parents and teachers support the child’s development in the classroom. These assessments play a crucial role in ensuring every child receives the right support to thrive academically.
