About Back in Action Physiotherapy

At Back in Action Physiotherapy, Jackie Wells brings over 25 years of experience to the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries. Jackie graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1997 before spending several years in the United Kingdom, where she worked across orthopaedics, paediatrics, and sports injury rehabilitation. During this time, she had the opportunity to work with elite athletes, including roles with Cardiff Rugby Club and Fulham Football Club.

After returning to South Africa in 2004, Jackie established Back in Action, a thriving physiotherapy practice linked to a Virgin Active Gym in the Southern Suburbs. Her approach integrates a range of manual therapy techniques, including:

  • Joint and soft tissue mobilisation
  • Fascial release
  • Lynotherapy
  • Visceral mobilisation
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Exercise rehabilitation

Jackie’s background as a competitive athlete in road running, trail running, cycling, and triathlons gives her a unique understanding of sports-related injuries. Many of her clients have faced chronic conditions and have struggled to find long-term solutions before coming to Back in Action.

Services Offered

Rehabilitation Pilates

Our rehabilitation Pilates programme is designed to aid recovery from injury, improve posture, build strength, and enhance mobility. Pilates sessions can be one-on-one or semi-private, ensuring a personalised experience that addresses dysfunctions caused by injury or repetitive movement patterns.

For those who cannot commit to frequent in-person sessions, we provide online access to long-form Pilates videos to help with rehabilitation at home.

Strength Training for Runners

Strength training is a key factor in injury prevention and performance enhancement for runners. Our strength programmes focus on:

  • Injury prevention: Building strength in muscles surrounding the knees, hips, and ankles to improve joint stability and reduce the risk of sprains, strains, and ligament tears.
  • Muscle balance: Addressing common running-related muscle imbalances to prevent overuse injuries such as IT band syndrome, shin splints, and runner’s knee.
  • Improving posture and form: Core strengthening to promote better posture, reduce lower back strain, and enhance efficiency.
  • Performance enhancement: Strength training helps increase power, speed, and endurance by boosting muscle efficiency and reducing fatigue.

Pilates + Rehab App

The Back in Action Pilates and Rehab App offers a fully online fitness and rehabilitation platform. Designed by Jackie, a qualified physiotherapist and rehab Pilates specialist, the app provides expert-led programmes catering to all fitness levels. Whether you are recovering from an injury or looking to enhance athletic performance, the app features:

  • Live daily Pilates classes
  • Training and workout programmes (15–60 minutes per session)
  • Rehab videos guiding recovery from conditions such as back pain, knee injuries, hip issues, and shoulder rotator cuff injuries
  • A variety of class styles, including beginner Pilates, power Pilates, Barre classes, and mobility sessions
  • Strength training programmes, with options to track weights, reps, and progress over time
  • Direct physiotherapist support, where users can ask Jackie questions about their rehabilitation and fitness journey

With all sessions designed by a physiotherapy expert, users can feel confident that they are training safely and effectively, whether their goal is rehabilitation or peak performance.
