Ben Chapman Counselling and Psychotherapy Worcester

About Me

Ben Chapman brings a wealth of experience to his counselling and psychotherapy practice in Worcester. His career began in the North West of England, working with young people in homeless hostels. He then progressed to roles as a community worker and social worker in Liverpool city centre, contributing to pilot leaving care teams, inclusion projects, substance misuse services, and youth justice teams. Ben also specialised in setting up teams within social services, which led him to complete a Master’s degree in social work.

This extensive background gave Ben a strong foundation in working with diverse clients across various settings. It also deepened his understanding of difference, exclusion, and the crucial role of connection and courage in creating client safety.

Inspired by witnessing a client’s profound transformation through psychodynamic therapy, Ben retrained as a therapist. He completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Therapy at Birmingham University, alongside training in Brief Focal Therapy. His initial role as a therapist was with the adult psychology service in Cannock, where he became a BACP-accredited psychotherapist.

Services

Ben’s private practice offers a wide range of therapeutic approaches tailored to client needs. He works with individuals on issues such as trauma, sexual identity, gender identity, and sexual abuse, combining psychodynamic therapy with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

His work with the NHS Psychosexual and Sexual Health Counselling Service deepened his interest in trauma, prompting advanced training and accreditation in EMDR. EMDR now forms a central part of his practice, enhanced by further training in attachment-informed EMDR. This allows Ben to offer nuanced trauma therapy for a variety of complex presentations.

Additionally, Ben provides supervision for therapists, drawing on his own positive experiences. He completed Level 7 training in cross-modality psychodynamic and psychoanalytic supervision, gaining membership and approval from the British Association for Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Supervision (BAPPS). Ben also holds accreditation as an EMDR Consultant with EMDR UK, EMDR Europe, and EMDRIA, as well as approval as an attachment-focused consultant with EMDR Focus.

Currently, Ben is training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which complements his existing work with parts-based approaches. He is working towards IFS accreditation and aims to become an IFS consultant, enabling him to supervise this emerging strand of therapy.
