Based at the Royal Free Hospital, he also serves as Professor of Surgery and Head of Surgical Research at University College London (UCL). After graduating in Medicine from the University of Glasgow in 1985, Professor Davidson began his specialist training. He focused on HPB and liver transplant surgery from the outset. Over time, he built a reputation for excellence and leadership. In 1997, UCL promoted him to a personal chair in Surgery. At 39, he became the youngest Professor of Surgery in the UK.
Throughout his career, Professor Davidson has driven surgical research forward. At UCL, he created a research programme focused on HPB diseases. He collaborated with top researchers across the UK. Together, they produced over 420 peer-reviewed papers. Importantly, he also contributes to clinical trials and evidence-based healthcare. He also chairs the NIHR London panel for Research for Patient Benefit. Moreover, he serves as a UK Editor for the Cochrane Group and runs the HPB Editorial base in London. At UCL, he directs the MSc in Evidence-Based Healthcare.
