Briony Gildenhuys Physiotherapist Constantia Kloof brings over 20 years of experience to her physiotherapy practice. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough, UK, with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy. Briony began her career working in a large general hospital in Birmingham, UK. There, she gained hands-on experience in various neuro rehab positions, treating children, adults, and the elderly. She quickly developed a strong passion for rehabilitation, focusing on helping patients return to functional, meaningful lives.
After working in the UK for a few years, Briony relocated to South Africa. She continued to expand her physiotherapy knowledge and skills in both public and private healthcare settings. Briony worked as the chief physiotherapist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto for seven years. During this time, she worked across numerous departments, including orthopaedics, medical, surgical, neurological, burns, and maternity units. She also gained valuable experience in treating patients with pelvic dysfunction and chronic pain, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Briony’s career has always been driven by a commitment to continuous learning. She regularly participates in professional development courses, ensuring that she stays up-to-date with the latest physiotherapy techniques. Furthermore, Briony is passionate about sharing her knowledge. She has spent years teaching and mentoring fellow therapists and students, helping them grow in their careers. This dedication to teaching and development has been a cornerstone of her practice.
Briony’s areas of special interest include pelvic dysfunction and chronic pain management. She has spent years developing her expertise in these areas. In addition to her clinical practice, Briony volunteered as a counsellor for the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). This experience has provided her with a deep understanding of the emotional and psychological challenges patients often face.
Briony lives by the mantra: “The impossible exists only until we find a way to make it possible.” This philosophy not only guides her approach to physiotherapy but also shapes her personal life. Briony’s determination and compassion drive her to help patients overcome obstacles and achieve their best quality of life.
