Cape Cardiology – Dr Brad Griffiths, Pinelands

About Cape Cardiology

Dr Brad Griffiths leads Cape Cardiology with a strong focus on expert cardiovascular care. He graduated from Stellenbosch University in 2005 as the top student in internal medicine. After completing his internship in KwaZulu-Natal and community service in the Eastern Cape, he gained further experience in Sydney, Australia. There, he worked in emergency medicine, intensive care, and anaesthesia.

Returning to South Africa, he specialised in internal medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital. He earned his MMed degree from the University of Cape Town. Later, he completed subspecialist cardiology training at Tygerberg Hospital, where he obtained an MPhil degree. He remained there as a consultant in the Division of Cardiology after completing his training in 2017.

Dr Griffiths is also actively involved in research. His MPhil focused on the impact of pre-eclampsia on heart health. He frequently presents at national and international cardiology conferences and has published in respected medical journals. In 2017, he received the RC Fraser Fellowship, which allowed him to train at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Interventional Cardiology Unit in London. There, he participated in the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) programme.

Beyond clinical practice, he teaches and trains medical students and cardiology specialists at Tygerberg Hospital and Stellenbosch University. He also contributes to a cardiology outreach programme, helping to improve access to specialised care.
