About Us
Caritas Therapy Centre forms part of Caritas Community Focus, a non-profit charity dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and children across the Northern Cape and North West Provinces. Our mission is to heal and empower communities, especially vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. We provide specialised therapy services to those in need of psychological, emotional, and social support.
Our charity is made up of various entities, including Caritas Child and Youth Care Centre (038-135 -NPO), Caritas Community Focus Kimberley (037-545 -NPO), and Caritas Community Focus Vryburg (044-421 -NPO). Together, we offer services aimed at fostering community well-being and providing essential support.
Our Vision
Our vision is the healing of individuals within their community. We aim to facilitate the empowerment of families and ensure children and elderly individuals receive the care they need. Additionally, we provide specialised therapy to address mental health concerns, supporting overall well-being for all.
History of Caritas
Caritas Therapy Centre has deep historical roots. It began as Kestell Children’s Home in 1890, when the Dutch Reformed Church partnered with De Beers to create a children’s home. Newton Home opened on April 22, 1891, housing just five children.
By 1898, the home expanded. It grew further in 1921-1937, eventually becoming a double-storey house. In 1961, the home was renamed Kestell Children’s Home, after the Kestell family, who had provided valuable services to the home. During the Anglo-Boer War (1900-1902), the home was located near a concentration camp, which deeply affected its residents.
In 2013, the Kestell Children’s Home closed, and the children were moved to the Jannie Roux Campus in Barkly West due to budgetary constraints. The old building was converted into office spaces, a therapy centre, and conference facilities. This marked the transformation of the centre into Caritas Community Focus NPC.
