He completed his dental degree (BDS) at the University of the Witwatersrand, followed by a postgraduate qualification in orthodontics from the University of Pretoria, where he graduated with an MChD in Orthodontics Cum Laude. Throughout his career, Dr Choonara has earned numerous accolades, including the Lecturer of the Year award at the University of Pretoria. He is also dedicated to dental education, regularly presenting at international conferences and serving as a reviewer for respected dental journals.
