Chris Lamb Consultant Gastroenterologist Newcastle brings world-class expertise to the diagnosis, management, and treatment of digestive conditions. Dr Chris Lamb has dedicated his medical career to helping patients with gastrointestinal diseases, especially those suffering from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
After graduating from Newcastle University with Distinction in 2004, Dr Lamb pursued higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine in the North East. Since then, he has developed a strong reputation for clinical excellence. He treats a wide range of gastroenterology issues with precision and empathy.
Chris focuses particularly on IBD, combining his clinical work with academic research to improve patient care. He understands that living with digestive conditions is difficult, so he works closely with patients to offer tailored, evidence-based treatment.
Over the years, Chris has earned national recognition. The British Society of Gastroenterology awarded him the ‘Young Gastroenterologist of the Year: Emerging Leader’ award. Additionally, he received the prestigious President’s Medal, celebrating his leadership in the field.
His dedication extends beyond clinical care. As lead author of the national British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines for IBD management, Chris helps shape best practices across the UK. He also serves as an investigator for several national and international clinical trials.
Dr Lamb leads an active research programme at the Translational and Clinical Research Institute, Newcastle University. His work examines how the intestinal immune system influences health and disease. He investigates how gut microbes—bacteria, viruses, and fungi—interact with our immune system to affect inflammation and healing.
His academic achievements include a Wellcome Trust-funded Master’s Degree and PhD in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics. He also completed a four-year NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturership in 2019. These experiences fuel his innovative approach to research and care.
Chris currently leads the IBD-RESPONSE and CD-metaRESPONSE studies, which are funded by the Medical Research Council and Helmsley Charitable Trust. These projects aim to improve treatment outcomes for patients with IBD, using advanced research to guide better clinical decisions.
Patients can trust Chris Lamb Consultant Gastroenterologist Newcastle to deliver expert, compassionate care backed by groundbreaking research and national leadership.
