Description

Claire Jessup – Specialist in Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Biomechanics

About Claire

Claire Jessup combines a background in engineering with a passion for improving lives through prosthetic and orthotic care. She earned her Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering at The University of Melbourne in 2011, focusing on biomechanics. During her final year, she worked on a project with the International Committee of the Red Cross. The aim was to develop a low-cost prosthetic foot suitable for people living in developing countries. This experience sparked her interest in prosthetics and orthotics.

As a result, Claire pursued further study and entered the Graduate Entry Master’s programme in Prosthetics and Orthotics. She completed the degree in 2013. Since then, she has applied both technical and clinical skills to help people achieve better mobility and independence.

Services

Claire provides a full range of prosthetic and orthotic services. Her approach is both evidence-based and patient-focused. Key services include:

  • Custom Prosthetics: Claire designs and fits artificial limbs tailored to each client’s functional goals and lifestyle. She works with both upper and lower limb amputees.

  • Orthotic Management: She provides support devices for those with musculoskeletal or neurological conditions. These may help improve posture, walking ability, and reduce pain.

  • Biomechanical Expertise: Drawing on her engineering background, Claire ensures each device is aligned and calibrated for optimal performance.

  • Collaborative Care: She often works alongside physiotherapists, doctors, and other allied health professionals to provide holistic care.

Claire is known for listening closely to her clients and adapting solutions to meet their unique needs. Whether it’s a child adjusting to a new orthosis or an adult seeking improved mobility after limb loss, she provides thoughtful and personalised support.

Additional Information

Claire’s unique experience working with international organisations shaped her values early in her career. She believes that prosthetic and orthotic care should be both accessible and practical. Today, she continues to use those values in her clinical work.

Beyond the clinic, Claire remains committed to ongoing learning. She actively keeps up with new technologies and methods to ensure her clients benefit from the latest innovations.

In her role, Claire combines technical precision with compassion. This blend allows her to help people regain mobility, confidence, and a higher quality of life.
