Colinda Linde Clinical Psychologist & Cognitive Behavioural Therapist Randburg offers expert psychological care with a strong academic and practical background.
I completed my undergraduate studies at Wits in 1989. Then, I moved to RAU for my Psychology Honours in 1990, where I graduated cum laude. After that, I continued with a Masters in Clinical Psychology from 1991 to 1992. I graduated in 1993 with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology, also cum laude. Later, I earned my Doctorate in Psychology in 2001.
During my time at RAU, I worked closely with Prof Eddie Wolf. He was a Fulbright scholar who trained in CBT in the United States. Because of this, I started parallel training in cognitive behaviour therapy with him. As a result, this experience shaped my career path. It also created a lifelong passion for CBT.
At the same time, my training at Wits focused on psychodynamic therapy. Then, my training at RAU included systemic, interpersonal, and person-centred approaches. Therefore, I developed a well-rounded understanding of psychology. Each method added value to my skills.
CBT completed my overall training. For this reason, it became my preferred way of working. I use it often because it is active and practical. In addition, it delivers results quickly. Research strongly supports this method, which makes it reliable and effective.
Moreover, CBT focuses on teaching clients useful skills. This means clients learn how to manage their own thoughts and behaviours. Over time, they become more independent. As a result, they gain tools they can use long after therapy ends.
I choose CBT because it empowers clients. It helps them understand their thinking patterns. Then, it shows them how to change unhelpful habits. This process leads to real and lasting change.
Furthermore, my diverse training allows me to adapt when needed. Although CBT is my main focus, I understand other approaches well. Therefore, I can tailor therapy to suit each person. This ensures that every client receives the best possible care.
CBT stands out because it is structured and goal-focused. It also encourages active participation. Clients do not just talk; instead, they learn and practice skills. Because of this, progress often happens faster.
In conclusion, my journey through different training paths shaped my approach today. I combine strong academic knowledge with practical methods. As a result, I provide therapy that is both effective and empowering.
