Dawn McHale is an Integrative Therapist offering a compassionate, client-centred therapeutic experience. She brings over two decades of experience to her work with adults, children, and young people. Since joining Priory in 2019, Dawn has delivered therapy sessions at both Priory Hospital Bristol and Priory Wellbeing Centre Bristol. She tailors each session to meet the specific emotional and psychological needs of every individual.
Dawn’s work at Priory reflects her commitment to accessible, empathetic, and effective therapy. Her background includes diverse settings and client groups, which allows her to adapt her approach accordingly. Currently, she supports clients with a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, ADHD, bereavement, and adjustment disorders. Because of her adaptive methods, clients feel understood, respected, and empowered.
Dawn’s training demonstrates a lifelong commitment to developing her therapeutic skill set. Since her earliest training in bereavement counselling in 1996, she has continued to expand her expertise. Notably, she has completed training in motivational interviewing, safeguarding practices, suicide prevention, and LGBTQ+ youth care. She integrates each of these disciplines to strengthen her approach.
Clients benefit from Dawn’s ability to combine traditional methods with creative therapies. She draws on her qualifications in dance movement therapy, play therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. This blended approach ensures that therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Instead, she aligns her work with what will best serve each unique client.
Dawn’s credentials include an MA in Counselling (Consultative Supervision), a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Children & Young People, and an MSc in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes. Her academic focus complements her practice, especially her interest in the creative arts as therapeutic tools. She actively integrates this research into client sessions, making her work both innovative and evidence-based.
In addition to English, Dawn has conversational knowledge of Welsh and Level 1 British Sign Language. This broadens her accessibility and allows her to offer an inclusive therapeutic experience.
Dawn continuously adapts her services based on client feedback. She prioritizes outcomes that support healing, growth, and long-term wellbeing. Her therapeutic sessions remain collaborative, warm, and grounded in respect. Clients know they are heard and valued throughout the process.
