Deivendran Kalirathinam Physiotherapist Yorkshire is a highly experienced and respected Senior Physiotherapist based in Hull, Yorkshire. He brings over 18 years of hands-on expertise in treating complex neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. Deivendran specializes in supporting individuals with Stroke, Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, and other neuromuscular disorders through evidence-based rehabilitation strategies.
Deivendran’s journey began with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Master’s in Neurological Conditions from Annamalai University, India. He later earned a Ph.D. in Physiotherapy, Exercise and Sports Science from University Sains Malaysia. These qualifications laid a solid academic foundation, but his real strength lies in how he applies this knowledge in clinical practice.
Throughout his career, Deivendran has consistently helped patients regain function and independence. His early career in a 600-bed multi-specialty hospital in India gave him deep exposure to severe neurological conditions like Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Spinal Cord Injuries, and Traumatic Brain Injuries.
In 2013, Deivendran expanded his career in Malaysia as the Head of the Neurological Physiotherapy Department at a top university hospital. He worked in both inpatient and community settings. His collaboration with world-class specialists and his use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model made his care holistic and patient-centered.
He also contributed to research on Parkinson’s Disease and was involved in sleep-related neurological studies. His approach includes advanced methods such as the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT), BOSU balance training, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).
Currently working at Hull University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, Deivendran leads Stroke and Neurological Rehabilitation efforts. He is well-regarded for his ability to manage highly complex caseloads. Deivendran performs initial assessments, creates personalized treatment plans, and leads multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve patient goals.
He uses SMART goal-setting, functional training, and outcome-driven care strategies to help patients achieve meaningful progress. His leadership extends to mentoring physiotherapy students and contributing to clinical research.
Deivendran strongly believes in lifelong learning. He regularly completes professional development in areas such as Motor Re-learning Programme (MRP), Spasticity Management, and Long COVID-19 rehabilitation. He is currently involved in an NIHR-approved study in the UK focusing on Long COVID-19 recovery.
