Dr Anand Paranjape Consultant Psychiatrist Bristol has over 30 years of experience in mental health care. His journey began in Mumbai in 1993, where he started training in psychiatry. He completed his M.D. in Psychological Medicine in 1996 and worked as a lecturer in psychiatry for two and a half years before moving to the UK in 1999.

Upon arriving in the UK, Dr Paranjape trained in the Charing Cross psychiatric rotation scheme in London. He passed both parts of the MRCPsych exam on the first attempt. In 2002, he became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Since 2002, he has been approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act. By 2007, he was also approved as a Responsible Clinician. Between 2004 and 2009, he worked as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in West Wales with Hywel Dda NHS Trust. During this time, he provided care to both inpatients and community mental health patients.

Extensive Experience Across Mental Health Services

From 2009 to 2013, he worked with Craigmoore Healthcare (later acquired by Priory). Here, he focused on patients with learning disabilities and autism with complex mental health issues. He managed a low secure unit and provided community-based input for group homes. Additionally, he supported neurorehabilitation patients suffering from degenerative conditions.

Later, from 2014 to 2018, he worked for the Cambian Group (acquired by Cygnet Healthcare). In this role, he served as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a locked rehab unit for women. From 2018 to 2023, he worked in an adolescent unit, treating young females detained under the Mental Health Act.

Between April and October 2023, Dr Anand Paranjape worked with Elysium Healthcare, managing a male low secure ward. Currently, he works part-time with Iris Care Group, offering support to two separate wards. Since October 2023, he has been a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in the Bristol Community Rehabilitation Team (Avon and Wiltshire NHS Trust), working three days a week.

Other Professional Appointments

In 2017, he became a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor (SOAD) in Wales. He continues to offer second opinions on psychiatric treatments, including ECT. In 2022, he was appointed a Medical Member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for Wales, contributing his expertise to complex mental health cases.
