Having obtained his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 1978, he completed extensive training in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgery both locally and internationally. His journey has included groundbreaking research at the MRC UCT Liver Centre and advanced surgical training at Groote Schuur Hospital, and London.
