Anaesthesiologist Dr Karin Strauss leads perioperative care at Mediclinic Cape Gate Hospital and its Day Clinic in Brackenfell Mediclinic. She earned her MBChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 2008 and completed an MMed (Anaesthesiology) there in 2016. Moreover, she was admitted as a Fellow of the College of Anaesthesiologists (FCA SA) in 2016.
Her commitment to safe, patient-centred anaesthesia began during her internship and advanced through specialist training at Stellenbosch. Consequently, she maintains active registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and membership in the South African Society of Anaesthesiologists, ensuring her practice reflects the latest guidelines. Outside the operating theatre, she volunteers in community health outreach, offering sedation expertise to underserved patients. Meanwhile, she enjoys trail running and bird watching, which sharpen her focus and resilience while fostering empathy under pressure.
