Dr M Mathir GP Durban is dedicated to providing exceptional medical care rooted in evidence-based medicine. I graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2013, followed by an internship at Groote Schuur Hospital. During my internship, I honed critical skills in addressing complex medical problems, preparing me for my future career.

Early Career and Expanding Expertise

After completing my community service at Murchison Hospital and GJ Crookes Hospital, I focused on internal medicine. These experiences solidified my foundation in patient care. I then joined a family practice, where I worked alongside four distinguished family medicine specialists. This invaluable experience deepened my clinical knowledge and allowed me to build lasting relationships with patients.

Dr M Mathir GP Durban: Specializing in HIV Medicine

In 2017, I became a Sub Investigator for HIV vaccine trials with CAPRISA. This was a pivotal moment in my career, as it sparked my passion for HIV medicine. Subsequently, I joined MatCH in 2018, where I worked as an HIV clinician, managing patients with high viral loads and advanced clinical conditions. It was during this time that I completed my postgraduate diploma in HIV medicine and passed the Advanced HIV Management exams by the South African HIV Society. My dedication to this field continued to grow.

Starting My Own Practice

When the Durban division of MatCH closed in September 2020, I saw it as an opportunity to bring my expertise to a private practice. In the midst of a global pandemic, I established my own practice, focusing on providing quality care in a comfortable setting. Dr M Mathir GP Durban was born from this vision. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to serve a diverse patient base, offering personalized healthcare that prioritizes individual needs.

Ongoing Commitment to My Patients

Today, I am grateful for the trust and support of my patients. The love I have for my job continues to drive me every day.
