Dr Mark Hudson Clinical Psychologist Nottingham brings extensive expertise and dedication to supporting children, young people, and families. He is a chartered Clinical Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Mark holds registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist. He began his career working in primary care mental health, using CBT-based interventions for adults with common mental health issues. Over the years, he gained diverse experience across NHS settings, the third sector, higher education, and independent practice.
Mark completed his specialist training in a multi-agency psychological service focused on looked after children. Since then, he worked in various settings, including inpatient units for children with moderate-severe intellectual disability (ID), community CAMHS teams, and special schools for autistic children. His leadership roles in autism diagnostic teams across NHS and third sector services highlight his commitment to improving outcomes for neurodiverse populations.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Mark Hudson contributes as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine. His research explores relational and developmental approaches to supporting people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. He co-authored the 2021 book, Meeting Emotional Needs in Intellectual Disability: The Developmental Approach. This blend of research and practice ensures his approach remains evidence-based and innovative.
Mark specializes in emotional and behavioral difficulties in children and young people, particularly those with intellectual disability and autism. He understands the importance of considering the child’s wider social context to provide holistic support. His main therapeutic method uses Attachment Narrative Therapy, an integrative family therapy approach. Additionally, he incorporates compassion-focused therapy, Theraplay®, and CBT techniques as needed.
Dr Mark Hudson holds multiple qualifications, including a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Sheffield and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham. He undertook further training in family therapy, compassion-focused therapy, autism and ADHD assessment, and supervision techniques.
