Dr Matt Durrans – Orthopaedic Surgeon – Brackenfell practices at Mediclinic Cape Gate, where he leads advanced musculoskeletal care. He earned his MBChB from Stellenbosch University in 2001 and attained FC Orth (SA) from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2009 . Moreover, during his surgical degrees, he received both the Dr Joe de Beer Shoulder Prize and the Dr Spike Erasmus Prize, underscoring his early commitment to excellence .
Following qualification, Dr Durrans completed a fellowship-like hip and knee arthroplasty programme under Dr Heine De Jongh and Dr Antoon De Klerk until 2015 . Consequently, he developed sub-specialist expertise in joint replacement and complex revision surgery. Furthermore, he headed the Upper Limb Unit at Paarl Provincial Hospital, where he refined techniques in shoulder reconstruction and trauma management.
Today, his core competencies span lower limb surgery (hip, knee, foot), shoulder surgery, and trauma. He integrates 3D pre-operative planning, computer-guided osteotomies, and a fully digital workflow into every procedure. Thus, each treatment plan aligns precisely with patient anatomy, ensuring optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes .
