Dr Muj Husain Consultant Psychiatrists London leads specialist services in mental health at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He serves as the consultant psychiatrist for the National Persistent Physical Symptoms Unit at the Maudsley Hospital. In addition, he practices Liaison Psychiatry at King’s College Hospital, where he supports individuals struggling with a broad spectrum of mental health conditions. These include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, OCD, PTSD, and adjustment disorder.
With extensive expertise in conditions that span both mental and physical health, Dr Husain helps patients manage chronic illnesses and long-term physical health problems. He specialises in persistent physical symptoms such as fibromyalgia, chronic pain, functional neurological disorder, and irritable bowel syndrome. Many of his patients face uncertainty due to unclear or overlapping diagnoses. Nevertheless, his patient-centred, evidence-based approach enables them to make meaningful progress.
Dr Husain uses a rehabilitation-focused model that promotes recovery and improvement. His unit plays a critical role in King’s Health Partners’ treatment pathway for Long Covid. He also provides occupational assessments and supports individuals whose health issues impact their work or studies. Consequently, many patients benefit not only clinically but also in terms of overall functioning.
Dr Husain has authored peer-reviewed research and scholarly articles on persistent physical symptoms. He frequently lectures to healthcare professionals, students, and expert audiences, including the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. His work enhances clinical understanding and care standards across the sector.
In his role as Associate Medical Director for National and Specialist Services, Dr Husain oversees a wide array of expert mental health services. These include neuropsychiatry, perinatal psychiatry, eating disorders, trauma, affective disorders, and more. He also acts as Clinical Director for Mental Health at the Health Innovation Network, where he advances the use of evidence-based innovations.
Dr Husain offers medico-legal services for civil, criminal, and family law cases. His expertise includes personal injury, negligence, and assessments for court proceedings. Additionally, he provides structured investigations into serious healthcare incidents and advises the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983, Dr Husain appears on the GMC Specialist Register (GMC no: 6128657). He is a graduate of the NHS Medical Director’s Clinical Fellowship Scheme and has worked with the General Medical Council.
Assessments are usually available within two weeks, and reports follow within 2–4 weeks. He handles approximately 10 new medico-legal instructions per year, working primarily in London and across England.
