Dr Richard Benson Clinical Oncology Cambridge is the foundation of a compassionate and expert-driven oncology practice. He trained at the prestigious St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London and qualified in 1988. After completing his general medical training, he specialised in oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. To further his expertise, he served as a Senior Fellow at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto from 1998 to 1999.
Dr Benson was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist in 2000. He currently serves at both Addenbrooke’s NHS Foundation Trust and Peterborough Hospital NHS Trust. With over two decades of experience, he continues to deliver high-quality, personalised care. He remains committed to ensuring his patients receive the most effective treatments available.
A leader in clinical research, Dr Benson focuses on the technical aspects of radiotherapy. His special interest lies in enhancing outcomes for patients with head and neck, thyroid, and urological cancers. He continuously explores how to improve radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy by reducing toxicity and enhancing precision.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr Benson plays a key role in education. He actively teaches and examines oncology trainees for the Royal College of Radiologists. His dedication to training the next generation ensures future patients benefit from high standards of care.
At Nuffield Health, Dr Benson provides targeted treatments for head and neck oncology, chemotherapy, and urological cancers. His patient-first approach ensures every individual receives clear guidance and support throughout their treatment journey.
Dr Richard Benson works with a wide range of private medical insurers, including Bupa, AXA Health, Aviva Health, and Vitality Health. This wide network ensures accessible care for many patients seeking private oncology treatment.
Dr Benson holds no financial interest in Nuffield Health hospitals or advisory roles. However, as a partner of the Cambridge Urology Partnership, he owns a share in advanced laser equipment used at Nuffield Health Cambridge Hospital for prostate surgery. This partnership reflects his dedication to offering patients the latest in surgical technology.
