Subsequently, she completed a Certificate in Pulmonology in 2011 through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa Mediclinic.
Since then, Dr Ray has built a strong reputation for excellence in both outpatient care and critical care. After a formative period in the UK, she returned home to practice at Mediclinic Sandton for 13 years. Moreover, she joined Mediclinic Stellenbosch’s multidisciplinary team, where she now leads the pulmonary service. Consequently, patients benefit from her extensive expertise in managing complex respiratory conditions.
Her core interests include asthma, COPD, sleep medicine, and acute respiratory failure. Importantly, Dr Ray combines evidence‑based medicine with a warm, patient‑centred approach. Therefore, she customises each treatment plan, ensuring that individuals and their families understand every step of their care journey.
Dr Ray offers a comprehensive suite of pulmonology services, each delivered with precision and empathy:
Asthma Management
She develops personalised plans using spirometry, inhaler technique training, and allergy assessment to achieve optimal control.
COPD Care
She utilises pulmonary rehabilitation, long‑acting bronchodilators, and oxygen therapy to reduce exacerbations and improve quality of life.
Sleep Medicine
She diagnoses sleep‑disordered breathing through overnight polysomnography, then provides CPAP titration and lifestyle counselling.
Bronchoscopy & Endobronchial Procedures
She performs flexible bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), and airway stenting in a dedicated suite to diagnose and treat airway disorders.
Interstitial Lung Disease Assessment
She interprets high‑resolution CT scans and coordinates multidisciplinary discussions for conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis.
Acute Respiratory & Critical Care
She manages acute respiratory distress and ventilator‑dependent patients, working closely with ICU teams to stabilise critically ill individuals.
Pulmonary Function Testing
She conducts spirometry, plethysmography, and diffusion studies, ensuring accurate diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory disease.
Each service unfolds in modern facilities equipped with advanced imaging, sleep‑lab technologies, and state‑of‑the‑art endoscopy towers.
Dr Ray’s practice emphasises seamless, multidisciplinary care. She collaborates with allergists, thoracic surgeons, and physiotherapists to create cohesive treatment pathways. As a result, patients experience coordinated evaluations and follow‑through without unnecessary delays.
Furthermore, she champions patient education through interactive workshops on inhaler use, breathing exercises, and sleep hygiene. These sessions empower individuals to manage their conditions proactively. Additionally, Dr Ray leads regular case‑review meetings, during which she shares insights on emerging therapies such as biologic agents for severe asthma Mediclinic.
Her commitment to innovation extends into teaching. She mentors registrars in interventional bronchoscopy techniques and supervises simulation‑based critical‑care training. Therefore, she helps build regional capacity in advanced pulmonary care.
