Dr Ronan McIvor Consultant Psychiatrist London brings over 30 years of clinical experience to his work in mental health. He provides tailored treatment plans for individuals experiencing a wide range of psychiatric conditions. With a compassionate, direct approach, he helps patients move forward with clarity and confidence.
Dr McIvor treats complex and common conditions including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, and personality disorders. He also supports patients with stress, psychosis, sleep disorders, and self-harm. Transitional care is provided for people experiencing bereavement, postnatal depression, and suicidal thoughts.
He takes time to understand the full picture, using both psychological and medical insights to inform diagnosis and treatment. Because mental health is deeply personal, he works closely with each individual to build trust and ensure effective support.
Every patient is different, which is why Dr McIvor offers a range of treatment approaches. These include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), addiction management, and medication when necessary. His method combines clinical insight with a human-centred approach, helping patients feel both heard and supported.
Family involvement, where appropriate, is also encouraged. Whether through practical guidance or structured therapy, support networks play a key role in recovery. This collaborative care strategy helps create lasting change.
Dr McIvor graduated from University College Dublin in 1986 and trained at the world-renowned Maudsley Hospital in London. He has worked in both inpatient and community psychiatric settings and is currently an Associate Medical Director in a forensic NHS service. His accreditations include MRCPsych and FRCPsych, and he holds membership in numerous prestigious professional bodies.
He has held a private practice for over 15 years, treating adults with a variety of psychological and psychiatric needs. In every role, he remains committed to high-quality, ethical, and effective care.
As an Honorary Senior Lecturer and active researcher, Dr McIvor has published over 50 academic papers. His research focuses on PTSD, stalking, service innovation, and recovery outcomes. He also serves as an expert witness, offering detailed medico-legal assessments for court and legal proceedings.
His teaching contributions extend internationally, from Ireland and Australia to America and Somaliland. He trains medical students and junior doctors and recently won the Innovation in Clinical Teaching Award from GKT School of Medicine.
Dr McIvor’s experience, compassion, and clinical insight make him a trusted partner in mental health recovery. He treats each patient with respect and takes the time to design treatment plans that reflect each person’s needs and goals.
